NEW JERSEY (TRP) – Whitney Houston will return home one last time.
Days after her untimely death, the body of the iconic superstar arrived back where it all started Monday – in New Jersey where her family is preparing to eulogize her later this week.
Houston’s body was reportedly transported via a private jet owned by film producer Tyler Perry from Los Angeles to Teterboro Airport.
According to reports, funeral services for the late pop singer are planned for her hometown of Newark. A family spokesperson announced Tuesday that the invitation-only funeral will take place Saturday at the New Hope Baptist Church.
The news comes to the surprise of many fans who were hoping for a public memorial at the city’s Prudential Center. The Houston family has opted to keep the singer’s funeral private and only open to close friends and relatives.
The singer was found dead Saturday night, submerged in a bathtub inside her Beverly Hills hotel room. Celebrity website TMZ reports that an accidental mixture of alcohol and prescription drugs played a role in Houston’s death.
Among the prescription pill bottles discovered in Houston’s hotel room include Xanax, Lorazepam, Ibuprofen, Midol, Amoxicillin and Valium, officials said.
While fans continue to mourn the loss of what was billed as “the voice of a generation,” investigators are still trying to determine what led to the singer’s death. Houston’s doctors are reportedly being questioned to see if she illegally obtained the supply of prescription pills that may have led to her death.
