On Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney revealed that President Obama has been keeping tabs on the rise of New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin.
In a span of 10-days, Lin has managed to rise from obscurity from the Knicks’ bench to become a household name, taking the floundering team on a 6-game winning streak.
While on board Air Force One, Carney told reporters that Obama was raving about Lin’s dazzling performance on the court, specifically Tuesday night’s game against the Toronto Raptors where the Harvard grad scored a last-minute 3-pointer that locked in the win for the Knicks.
Obama, who is described as an avid sports fan, is said to be “very impressed” with Lin, Carney said. It’s a sentiment Obama shares with basketball fans everywhere.
While analysts attempt to pinpoint the factors behind Lin’s dramatic popularity, his endearing story of rags to sudden riches is clearly a driving force behind his success. It was just a week ago that he was crashing on a couch in his brother’s Lower East Side apartment.
