Despite the claim that women prefer the rugged rural look of an unshaven man, a new study says that assertion is far from the truth.
According to New Zealand researchers, women apparently loathe beards on their men, and instead prefer the clean-shaven look.
The study which was published in the Journal of Behavioral Ecology, found that women saw bearded men as old, less attractive and more aggressive.
For those men who refuse to part ways with their facial hair, there is good news. The study also found that bearded men command more respect, especially from male rivals in the workplace and in public.
According to researchers, the study surveyed 200 women from Europe and Samoa who were shown photographs of bearded and clean shaven men. The women found the shaven men more attractive than their hairy counterparts.
