Whitney Houston’s Cause Of Death Revealed, Ruled ‘Accidental’

LOS ANGELES  (TRP)— The Los Angeles County coroner’s office announced Thursday that Whitney Houston’s official cause of death was “drowning and effects of atherosclerotic heart disease” as well as apparent cocaine use.

Houston, who was found submerged in the bathtub of her Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel on Feb 11., was discovered by a member of her security team who made several attempts to resuscitate her. Officials say it appears her death was accidental.

According to the toxicology report, “Cocaine and metabolites were identified and were contributory to the death. Marijuana, Alprazolam (Xanax), Cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril) and Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) were identified but did not contribute to the death.”

Despite the discovery of several prescription medications and drugs found in her system, officials determined the medications weren’t in excess quantities.

The toxicology report further revealed that Houston was a chronic cocaine user. The complete report will be available for release in two weeks.

Last month, Houston was laid to rest at a star-studded tribute at New Hope Baptist Church in her hometown of Newark, N.J.

Mourners from all walks of life were on hand to mourn the pop singing icon. From music’s biggest stars like Alicia Keys and R Kelly, to industry titans Oprah Winfrey and Clive Davis, the crowd read like a who’s who of Hollywood.
