NEW YORK (TRP) – One World Trade Center surpassed the Empire State Building Monday, becoming the tallest building in New York and achieving a significant milestone in the re-building of Lower Manhattan.
The tower skyrocketed past the 1,250-foot Empire State Building, moving closer to its final height of 1,776 feet.
Upon completion, the Freedom Tower will include 71 office floors with 3 million square feet of space.
The New York Daily News reports that 55 percent of the office space will be filled by the time of the tower’s official opening at the end of 2013.
Construction of One World Trade Center began in 2005 and boasts a price tag of $3.9 billion.
