NEW YORK (PIX11) – Anyone who grew up listening to hip hip radio in the tri-state knows the voice of Angie Martinez and knows it well.
Whether she’s getting a shout out from President Barack Obama or giving Drake career advice, the Angie Martinez show has become a pit stop for celebrities and politicians looking to push their product.
With nearly 20 years of ruling the afternoon airwaves at HOT 97, “The Voice of New York” is now taking on reality TV on VH1′s “This Is HOT 97,” featuring the day-to-day antics of her and her radio colleagues.

“Initially I thought, ‘Hell no, I don’t want to do a reality show because of the way some reality shows are formatted,’” Martinez told PIX11 News, describing how she reacted when she was approached with the idea of having cameras follow her every move.
“But when they said we can really be ourselves and [told us] we think you’re funny, and we think this environment is entertaining, then we were all on board.”

“This is HOT97″ airs on VH1 on Mondays at 10:30 PM EST.
