10-21-15: NYC nerds out over Back To The Future Day

NEW YORK— It’s the day every pop culture fan probably has marked down in their calendar.

October 21, 2015 was the day Doc Brown and Marty McFly traveled to in the “Back To The Future” sequel and fans every where are nerding out in every possible way.

The ride hailing service Lyft got in on the fun Wednesday with help from Verizon. The company offered free rides in one-of-a-kind DeLoreans across New York City.

USA Today is also getting in the spirit, distributing the replica newspaper cover where Martin Mcfly Junior made some headlines.

Anyone who remembers the film, 2015 looked pretty cool back in 1989.

While some of the predictions were dead-on, others were a little off.

In the film, Doc Brown explained 2015 wasn’t a place where one “need roads.” Unfortunately, he was wrong.

In 2015, roads are very much still in use and flying cars are not a thing but we’re closer than ever to hovering.

Just like Marty McFly rode in the movie, Lexus recently released a similar hoverboard that runs on a magnet. They’re still working out the kinks but it’s legit.

We’re still waiting on those self-lacing shoes from Nike but what we do have are 3D movies, just not 3D billboards and “Jaws 19” never made it to theaters.

One thing that “Back To The Future” hit right on the nose was video conferencing. With Skype and Facetime available on just about any Smarphone, it’s very much a reality.

When it comes to one major inaccuracy, filmmakers dropped the ball on their prediction of the Chicago Cubs winning the 2015 World Series.

Even though they’re in the playoffs, as of Wednesday the Cubbies are one game away from being eliminated thanks to the New York Mets.

If they only could’ve predicted the birth of baby Daniel Murphy, who was 4-years-old when the film hit theaters.
