XI’AN, China (TRP) – While casually walking down a sidewalk in northern China, the ground underneath a teenage girl suddenly broke open, swallowing her down a six-meter-deep pit.
The terrifying scene, which was captured by a street surveillance camera, unraveled in the Chinese city of Xi’an.
A cab driver that happened to be passing by and witnessed the incident, immediately jumped into action, climbing into the hole to aid the teen.
“I called out to her but she didn’t respond. After I shook her a little, she came to,” cabbie Wang Wei was quoted, according to local media outlets.
After a dramatic rescue, responding firefighters eventually pulled the pair out of the pit.
According to reports, underground water eroded the ground under the sidewalk, weakening the concrete.
